“Joy is a decision, a really brave one, about how you are going to respond to life”

—Wess Stafford

Welcome to Present Joy Counseling

A place to search for, wrestle with, and find joy.

There can be a lot of mess in the way: roadblocks to hurdle, feelings to share, tears to shed, words to say, forgiveness to offer.

This is a place for all of that; it is a place for you to find joy in the present. Joy can be found in the mess, while working through the mess, and on the other side of the mess.

Our lives are filled by the choices we make everyday. In life, we are each given a bucket and we get to decide what’s in it. What’s in your bucket? Is it filled with regret, mistakes, bitterness, anger, sadness, fear, or worry? What if you could dump out your bucket and fill it with acceptance, love, courage, peace, and joy?

God is also in the mess of our everyday. He wants joy for us. “I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10). Abundant life comes forth, not from all we have or do or achieve, but from an acceptance of all of who we are, and all of who we will become.

Our lives can change, not by everything we don’t have control over, but by what we choose to put in our buckets.
